iTeach offers a richly interactive and highly collaborative student experience which, in many ways, offers greater opportunities for tutor-student and student-student communication than traditional learning mechanisms. With iTeach, learning is not a solitary process, rather it is one in which teamwork is encouraged, in which tutors and fellow students are available at the touch of a button and one which integrates diverse learning opportunities, all from the student’s own personal computer.
Becoming an Online Learner
The links on this page are designed to give you a feel for what it will be like training to become a teacher online with iTeach. The Learning Experience section (below) shows the 3 main forms of the course content that you will receive each week. On the left of this you'll see the HELMS (Higher Education Learning Management System) navigation section.  This gives you a guide to the different sections of the HELMS website which you will access on a daily basis.
The Study Skills lessons (below right) comprises a brief guide to assist you in developing the skills needed to be successful in higher education in an online learning environment. You will learn about managing your time so as to maximise your learning and you will also learn how to enhance your writing and research skills. Finally, we look at exam skills and techniques.
Finally we have reproduced an actual lesson page from the Professional Studies course to give you an idea of the content and how it is all presented. Not all of the links will work as there are areas that we can only make available to registered students, but it does show you the different activities for the week as well as the various formats in which you can access the lesson content.
You will find that some of the examples on this page and the lesson page are presented in Flash. If you already have Flash these will work straight away. If you find they don't work you will need to download the Flash Player which can be done from the Adobe website by clicking here
